With the advent of email a high proportion of businesses receive very few faxes and send even less. Nonetheless, the risk of missing an occasional but important fax means you need this facility.
The cost issue can be that you are paying a full price phone line rental to have your fax machine (BT average price for line rental is now £17.80 a month).
For only £9.99 a month, you can take advantage of our e-fax service. Simply:
Choose a geographic number, or a non geographic number, and when someone sends a traditional fax to this line, our e-fax service will simply convert the fax to a PDF document and email it to your inbox. If you need a paper copy, just print it out at no more cost that your old fax machine printing it for you.
Is there a charge for me to receive a fax?No.
What if I need to send a fax?You can buy a great quality combined scanner / printer from any PC shop for an average of £30. Simply scan your documents and email them to your customer instead of sending a fax.
Cancelling Your Existing Fax LineOnce you have your e-fax service live, you will want to cancel your existing fax line. There are a couple of points that must be considered before doing this:
Am I in contact?Call your current provider and ask. Below are the standard agreement lengths of common business telecom providers:
BT – 24 Months
Talk Talk Business – 24 Months
Virgin Media – 24 Months
Onebill Telecom – 24 / 36 Months
Chess Telecom – 36 Months
Daisy Communications – 24 / 36 Months
Unicom – 36 Months
If you have not agreed a renewal with your supplier outside of this date, and post the 19th December OFCOM ruling, then you can cancel your agreement with immediate notice.
Broadband On Your Fax Line
The last and perhaps most important item to consider is: do you have broadband on your fax line? If the answer is yes, then you will need to migrate this service to another line BEFORE cancelling it. Changing your service to a new line with your existing provider can create a situation of double billing for 1 month as they must setup a new connection before cancelling the old one. See below:
Solution
Changing your broadband supplier can offer several benefits:
- Better prices
- Faster speeds (dependent on cost and other factors)
- Lower contention ratios
For standard ADSL we can offer 1 year of free broadband then only £14.99 a month thereafter. For ADSL2+, or Fibre Optic, the price does vary.
Having broadband on your main line will NOT cause any issues. In many cases, a sales person may have recommended a separate line for broadband as a way of adding an extra product to their sale.
The only lines broadband cannot sit on are:
- ISDN
- PSTN Multilines
If you’re unsure whether this is what you have, call us and we can check for you.
Ultimately, Saffwood Communications will arrange a better broadband price and migration to a new service provider with no down time as part of our service to you. Not only will we save you an average of £93 a year on your fax line, but an additional £240 a year on your broadband.
