Non Geographic Numbers
A non-geographic number is a number that typically begins 08. For example, 0800 and 0808 is a free phone number. 0845 / 0870 are tier 2 premium rate numbers (usually around 3 – 5p a minute). 0870 numbers a tier 1 premium rate, and can charge up to £1.50 per minute.
Why Have A Non Geographic Number (NGN)Most businesses take a non-geographic number as a way to protect the business against future office moves. If you move your business out of your local area, you cannot take your local area number with you unless this is already with a VOIP provider such as Saffwood, or unless you migrate this to a VOIP before your move.
0845 also make sure that businesses can promote their services in all areas of the country without any form of bias bassed on where the business is, against the part of the country it is offering it’s services to.
Having an NGN also helps to promote a big business feel. Many larger organisations and SME’s have 0845 numbers to help them compete in the eyes of the customer.
Most businesses wanting to advertise a non-geographic number choose 0800, 0808, or 0845. We can supply these numbers with approximately 10 days lead time. You can find out more about geographic numbers here.
